I think the chowhounds did a crawl to this joint just recently...

according to their report, i decided to stop by for some take out...

my experience...
1. Matsu--slices of different raw fishes
2. rolls--philly, funky-hamachi, caterpillar, dragon, lion king, creamy albacore

the service was friendly... and that was the good part about going there...

1.the eel on the dragon roll was fishy and loaded with bones... after the first bite, i had an awkward time trying to avoid swallowing eel bones...i realized quickly the fishiness, so i ended up discarding the rest of the roll...

2.the creamy albacore had a slick rather than creamy texture...

3.as for the battered and fried funky roll , the texture was dense and the tempura batter was not delicate...

4.the lion king roll was a california roll wrapped in salmon and baked. as far as the basic california roll goes it was okay, but the salmon was dry and tough... broke into little bits when we went to seperate the pieces...

5.caterpillar roll was okay. the battered soft shell crab was okay, nothing spectacular. just okay.

6.the matsu combo was tuna, yellotail, shrimp, salmon, albacore and california roll... the raw selestions were distinctly fishy although the slices were generous... the unpleasant odor was disappointing... another thing... they forgot to include the miso soup that comes with the combo... but didnt notice that until we got home...

7.finally the philly roll... it may have been okay? i dont know, the intense helping of cream cheese drowned out another other smell of flavors of this particular roll.

maybe my experience was due to the fact that it is a saturday night and the fish tends to be old by that time? or fresh fish is not available on saturdays? or maybe it is because the 6 minute drive from Ichiro to the comforts of my home turned good sushi to fishy sushi? when we arrived, there was a party of 8 people eating there already. the presentation of the rolls on the dishes had given me false hope that the sushi was going to be just as good... and one of the patrons was commenting on how delicious everything was... alas, it was not...

but don't take my word for it... it maybe was just a fluke... you might wanna try it out yourself and let me know...
