Created an excuse to hit the $25 three-course prix fixe at Icarus. The focaccia-and-wheat-bread basket comes with excellent butter. App: chilled avocado soup, with strong flavors of raw garlic, excellent tomatoes, and a bite or two of shrimp. Lovely. Ssauteed chicken thighs on bitter greens and pea tendrils next: delightful. I find this to be the tastiest part of the chicken, and it is pan-roasted to perfection. Strawberry shortcake has real shortcake (no spongey Twinkie-ish junk here), real whipped cream, and fine strawberries.
Washed down with a nice-priced Rioja (Azabache, $25), my meal worked out to about $48 (inclusive), a swell bargain in such a beautiful room. Service was fine, if a bit more frantic than usual: the place was hopping for a Monday night (75% full). "We would normally see about 25 covers all night long on a Monday in mid-July", confided our waiter.
Check it out before it expires on July 25!
