“Hungry Planet—what the world eats” fascinating book [moved from General Topics]

I just received this book as a V-day gift. It’s riveting. It shows photos of families all over the world pictured with a week’s worth of the food they normally eat. It has a lot of interesting text about where people buy their food, likes and dislikes, customs, etc. Haven’t even begun to explore it all, but it’s so amazing to compare all the packaged junk the three American families in the book eat and read about the struggles they have overcoming weight, health and time issues with the foods people eat in other parts of the world and read about the struggles they have with finding enough food.

It’s mind blowing to see the piles of grains and fresh vegetables with the families in the countries we might consider “less developed” or “less fortunate” and compare them with the absolute crap that families in more industrialized countries eat. You’ll also notice the “creeping” effect of packaged food overcoming more traditional diets in some of these photos. Fascinating vignettes. Great project. Check it out. Hungry Planet, What the World Eats, by Peter Menzel and Faith D’Aluisio.

Hope this is the right board. It is about food and it's not a cookbook, though there are some recipes.
