Hungry Cat, another great visit

Just LOVE this place on Vine off of Sunset. Small, and sometimes tough to get a table, but the secret is to sit at the bar. The bar staff is beyond friendly and you feel a real sense of community with your fellow bar-sitters.

Specials tonight included oyster fritters with aioli. Wonderful, crunchy, tender. Delicious!
A corn/crab chowder, despite the heat outside, this was a lovely thing to have. A very light broth with basil oil drizzled on top. Sweet fresh corn and nice bits of crab.
The heirloom tomato salad is on the regular menu now, it's truly wonderful. People around us were digging into lots and lots of oysters.
The drinks are really wonderful, if I had known they were doing fresh watermelon margaritas, I would have jumped on it...instead we sampled their "hard" lemonade, kumkwat-tinis, and the Pimlico.

After reading many mixed reviews on their only dessert, a bread pudding, we finally decided to try it. Could it really be that bad? Of course not!! It's a really AWESOME dessert, with a layer of bittersweet chocolate melted on the bottom of the ramekin, then layers of thinly sliced pain de mie bread soaked in a sweet, light custard. Then a layer of broiled sugar on top, forming a hard caramel shell. We loved it. The coffee is very nice too.

Always good to see a restaurant maintain their high standards.
