I mentioned this below on another thread, but thought I'd put in a separate plug here to get the word out: very nice, well-stocked new Hungarian deli on 31st St. north of Ditmars.
They sell duck fat. And lard. And European butter. And all kinds of tasty Hungarian prepared food. Very delicious cherry strudel. Many varieties of head cheese, and lots of other cured meats. (Not as vast a selection and as wonderful smelling as the Romanian deli on Broadway, but what is?)
I'm not a Hungarian connoisseur, but I'm rooting for these people because they're so nice and in a doomed location (all previous delis have failed--why? because everyone stops at the public library next door instead?). I'd like to see a regular source of duck fat exist near my house. They'll be at the street fair this Sunday, the woman said, with a ridiculously long list of offerings.
