Hunan Garden Palo Alto (mini-lunch-report)

Bung | Feb 18, 200402:37 AM

I have been to Hunan Garden 3 times now and, after trying a few items, have come to the conclusion that they make standout american oriented (no pun intended), chinese food along the lines of Henry's and Brandy Ho's in the city. The Hunan Smoked Pork and Kung Pao chicken are superb. Everything is nicely spicy and if you ask, they will bring out homemade chili paste that is not at all salty to ratchet up the heat. The decor is pretty with windows and a view of their garden area and they have an outdoor patio and good service. The hot and sour soup that comes with lunch is ovo-vegetarian and better than many chicken broth versions at other places. Overall, there is a attention to detail that you would not expect for the reasonable prices.
