Hummussiah is a hummus joint near Dundas and Church. They claim to be the first in Toronto. The menu has vegetarian and vegan options, and is maybe halal, but don't hold me to that. I've been several time and I find the food to be consistently good. What I consider good about the food is: I've always felt healthy after eating it; the food is properly seasoned, neither over or under salted; the flavours are balanced, never over spiced or dependent on garlic; textures are excellent, from silky hummus and eggplant, to both crispy and moist chicken; there is a variety of flavours and textures to maintain interest in the dish; portions are generous; and prices are quick service prices. The pita with my hummus bowl is that dense, store bought type, but they do warm it up. Service is super friendly and they have Fanta orange. I only see one draw back with the place and it is that if I spend more than three minutes in there, I come out smelling like their deep fryer. I walk in, place my order, and wait outside while "making a phone call", until things are ready. I believe they use Skip the Dishes. Hummussiah and Santouka have been the only restaurants I have returned to repeatedly in the area. I'm not saying this is pilgrimage across the city for a hummus bowl, but it I find it to be a reliable offering in the area which I hope continues to be there for me.
