Humble Pie - Scottsdale

With economy such that it is, I've noticed less of a crowd at many of my favorite restaurants. Although I appreciate the ability to get a last minute reservation or in for lunch without a wait, it makes me want to really support those restaurants that do a great job.

We've actually dined at Humble Pie twice in the last 3 weeks, and I keep coming away more impressed. It is a great place for a casual, fun dinner that won't break the bank. Plus, the varied, interesting wine list is reasonably priced, and there are numerous wines offered by the glass and flight (the btg selections can be hit or miss, but they are generally low priced, and a great way to try something new. If you don't like it, Matt or whoever is behind the bar will be quick to replace it).

Our last visit with a party of 8 we started with the daily cheese and meat board (the cheeses aren't as interesting as when they first opened, but the parmagano and cheddar were good, and the copa and prosciutto were very good), calamari with a basil dipping sauce that is really good, and the butternut squash (their produce starters and sides are so good and simply prepared).

Next, the chopped salad with turkey, salami mozzarella and tomatoes was great. The veggie salad is amazing, too.

Then we shared several pizzas, including the potato, roasted garlic, fontina and gorgonzola, the wild mushroom and pancetta (awesome) and the egg and prosciutto, on top of smoked mozzarella and topped with a sunnyside up egg (really good).

The wine drinkers at my end of the table shared a couple of bottles of the 2006 Patz and Hall Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir which was excellent, and very reasonably priced for a restaurant. I also saw the 2005 Jayson Red from Pahlmeyer, which I love, on the list now.

Service is always very friendly and efficient, and we really like getting there early for a glass of wine or a flight at the bar. Humble Pie is quickly becoming our go to restaurant for small groups and a casual dinner.
