I am hosting my first lobster bake tomorrow. We usually boil them but this time they'll be cooked in a roasting box under hot coals. That seems like a slow and painful death to me (and, yes, I do believe lobsters feel pain). What is the most humane way to kill a lobster beforehand? I have researched techniques online and most say to cut through the lobster's head and then split it in half with a knife through the underside. I do not want to do the latter and am wondering if the cut through the head is enough? Has anyone had any experience with this? I remember in the film "Mostly Martha" she stabbed a lobster through its eye into the head and that did the trick . . . but that was a movie.
