Well, we had a very successful NO eating visit because of the chows! Remember we wanted the BEST gumbo in NO! First, we went to Abita Brewery tour in Abita Springs & boy was it fun! Loved all the Abita beers and you could drink as many or as much as you wanted! Great Abita gifts also. We LOVED Andygator & Golden & mixing Turbo dog & Purple haze together. Husb. liked IPA & amber.
Dinner started out at Brightsens and Patois Thurs night. Yes, you heard right-we went to 2 restaurants per meal. We are eating fools but we wanted to eat at as many as we could in a short time. We only had Thurs & Fri to test gumbos. Both gumbos were pretty good but nothing to scream about. Loved the atmosphere at both places but remember we were only interested in GUMBO! Great Sazerac at Brightsens and Wilde Julep at Patois! No breakfast(saving up for lunch) we took a slight different approach to lunch-we had 3 restaurants to eat at so husb went to Mothers and I went to Bon Ton and then we met up to eat together at Herbsaint. Husb liked Mothers & Bon Ton was ok(real old-timey type gumbo) People were fantastic-really nice! but when we got to Herbsaint...well, incredible! Duck and andouille-dark & rich and just right!!!!!!! Donald Link just knows how to do it! Lots of depth and very flavorful! We LOVED it! So then Fri night we had a reserv at Mr. B's- gumbo ya-ya was good but the 1-1-1 app. was FAB. Now I know we were just supposed to be eating gumbo, but I could not help myself and I was not disappointed! Then our last gumbo was at Cochon for Shrimp and deviled egg gumbo. Boy, was this good. Husb said it reminded him of his cajun Mother's gumbo because she always dropped a raw egg in at the end and then they always had potato salad with their gumbo. This was incredible. A deviled egg was nestled into the gumbo. Just talking about it makes we want a bowl right now! We ate all that in a day and a half and just had a blast! NO is back in a big way & we are so glad since we are both from Baton Rouge. Thanks to everyone for the great suggestions-we loved every minute of it because of ya'll.
