I was out at the Farmer's Market/Ferry Building today playing tour guide for Janet and some of her friends, and noticed that the huevos rancheros I had asked about a month or so ago (see post below) were on the Primavera menu.
I was just about to stand in line to try some, when I saw some folks at one of the tables eating them, and saw that the eggs were not only poached (as a traditionalist, I believe the huevos in huevos rancheros should always be fried over easy or sunny side up), but in addition were cooked to the point that the yolk was completely hard. IMO, that eliminates the entire purpose (to mix that runny, yummy yolk with salsa and mop it up with tortillas).
So anyway, I passed. Those that like real huevos with runny yolks (my editorial opinion, obviously) should specify or perhaps better yet, try elsewhere.
However, all was not lost, as there was no line at the Hog Island stand and we decided that it is never too early to indulge in oysters on the half shell, not even at breakfast!
