Would someone kindly enlighten me on the Chinese veghetable called Huang Gua? Fuchsia Dunlop I believe calls it both a type of gourd and a cucumber in her books. From all my searches on the Internet it appears to be a cucumber and definitely not a gourd. However is hunag gua a distinct variety of cucumber that is not available in the West. Several seed companies lead you to one cucumber variety called 'Lucky Dance' which looks like an old fashioned cucumber. A google image search brings up shots of several varieites of cukes but they don't say which is the Huang Gua.
