Hrazdan vs. Zankou

I finally was able to sample Zankou chicken several weeks ago.. I had been wanting to compare it to my favorite Hrazdan Chicken for quite some time. I went to the Zankou on Sunset in Hollywood. I did enjoy Zankou very much, but I actually found that (dare I say it?) I like Hrazdan better. The food was very comparable. At both restaurants the chicken is very very good, very similar. However, I like the garlic sauce at Hrazdan much better. Very similar in quality and taste but Hrazdan's is a little more buttery with a stronger lovely garlic flavor. Rice did not come with my chicken plate at Zankou but it always comes with the chicken plate at Hrazdan and it's wonderful (and I don't normally like rice). I also like the pickles at Hrazdan a litte better. The only thing Zankou has on Hrazdan is the atmosphere, the place really is a hole-in-the wall with just a few small tables. I usually get take-away. I'm really glad I checked out Zankou, now i know not to take Hrazdan for granted. I'm not really surprised at all of the awards Zankou's won but Hrazdan must really be a secret spot because they'd be right up there with them with awards on the food quality. I wouldn't say it'd be a destination spot for a long drive, but if you're in the area it's a must try. Particularly if you live in the area like me and don't want to drive all the way to the nearest Zankou.
