In case anyone is wondering about the new place that is in the old Goody's in Rego Park, there is a new place called Howard Zhou's Chinese restaurant (Shanghai Cuisine).
After Goody's closed two awful places opened and quickly closed. This one seems like a winner. They redecorated with a tile floor replacing that funky carpeting that always bothered me at Goody's. The staff is all new, and fairly friendly (not effusively so).
We were there for lunch and ordered soup dumplings as per the waiter's recommendation. They were fresh and delicious, with very fresh ginger on the side. I am not sure if my entrees were strictly Shanghai style but the eggplant and chicken was terrific, as well as the the crispy fried noodles with shrimp. All tested very fresh.
There was a family that ordered a casserole (I believe pork with cabbage) that looked yummy. I will try one of them next.
Does anyone have a clue about who Howard is?
