In a rare foray to the westside, I found myself at the Century City Houston's. Having not had a Houston's burger in forever, and having noted many favorable comments about same in the never-ending burger wars, I thought I'd try one. Had the Classy Cheeseburger ($12). A very nice burger, highly reminiscent in size, presentation and quality to the Everything On It (#9?) formerly served at Hamburger Hamlet perhaps a dozen years or more past. Even down to the shredded lettuce. To my buds, this is not the best burger. It's too genteel for that. It's too respectable. (Just as a trip to the Hamlet of yore for burgers was good to impress a date.) It lacks the earthy deliciousness found on occasion at favored burger stands. It hardly seems fair to compare a burger like this to a double double or Fatburger given the price differential. Not to mention the grease differential. Just my opinion. Matchstick fries were good, not great, but plentiful.
