My 2nd visit to Houston, here are some places we went:
Churrasco's - i ordered the corn bisque and it was just ok, it wasn't corny enough, and then i got the churrasco, at first i was wondering why there was no steak knife....but you probably don't even need a knife, the meat is so flavorful and tender, great steak here
Hickory Hollow - got chicken fried steak, i ordered the smallest size for 5.99 and it was huge, it comes with salad, it was well made and the gravy was tasty but i don't think i'm a chicken fried steak fan, i can't even imagine how big the steak gets here, they also have a picture of the dixie chicks with original singer on the wall
Argentina Grill - i ordered the strip steak and it was good, but just ordinary, i couldn't really taste a difference in the flavor of the meat even with their argetine grill they use, the chimmichurri sauce was a little bland also, this place is rather ordinary and i would rather go to churrasco's and it costs about the same
Jalapenos - i don't have a lot of tex-mex experience (just chuy's and chevy's), but this was the worst tex-mex i've ever had, the fajitas were weird (they tasted like bbq meat) and the chicken enchilada was flavorless, i thinik chuy's is 1000 times better and i'd rather go to chevy's
Ostioneria 7 Mares - i ordered a seafood cocktail which was very well made and i got the grilled shrimp dinner (a la plancha), the shrimp were excellent with great seasonings, the meal comes with salad, fries and rice, i really enjoyed the rice, this place may compare favorably with Tampico as they also have the snapper a la plancha and i prefer the rice/fries/salad to the shrimp fried rice at tampico and the shrimp were definitely better than tampico's
Canton Seafood Restaurant - just an average cantonese restaurant, its just close to the med center so its convenient, it seems to be getting worse everytime we go (been there 3 times)
Seoul Garden - The hot bean paste stew i ordered was too salty, but the fish stew was excellent as was the bbq spicy pork, this place is better than green pine tree and il me jung imo
Telelo-something meat market - meat market next to seoul garden, i went in for a carnitas taco and it was excellent, the carnitas had great flavor and texture, however, they don't speak any english so i had a tough time in there cuz i don't speak any spanish...
La Michoana(sp?) meat market & taqueria - got a barbacoa taco and a carnitas gordita, the barbacoa was above average and the gordita itself was well made, but the pastor meat was bland and disappointing
Fiesta Market - got a fajita and barbacoa taco here, the barbacoa was good but the fajita taco tasted like BBQ meat - it just seemed weird to me, but i love this market, its so fun to walk around and check out all the different products...i even got a roasted corn from the corn guy and its great with mayo, lime, salt and chile sauce
Breakfast Klub - great atmosphere and great breakfasts, their biscuits are pretty good
New Orleans PoBoy - went here for breakfast, it has a great atmosphere and its really cheap and the breakfasts are pretty good, but i came out smelling like oil so i had to change...
Bluemountain Cafe - got a jamaican patty here, i've never had a jamaican patty i didn't like, i'm not sure but i think its in a bad area of town and i'm glad i was there during the day, i'd like to go back to try the jerk chicken
Marine's Empanadas - i had the beef stew w/jalapeno empanada and the filling was amazing with a nice kick from the jalapaneo
West Gray Cafe - no better than denny's and its open 24 hours, was unimpressed
Guy's Meat Market - bbq burger, excellent with a big peach soda...
Zydeco - cafeteria style food, got the baked chicken which was good, a solid place but nothing spectacular
Otilia - i was pretty disappointed with this place, i don't really think its mexican, more tex-mex, the chile relleno i ordered was good but i expected more i suppose
El Hidalguense - got the bbq goat here, again, i ran into a communication problem because i don't speak english but the service is wonderful and the goat was good with the handmade tortillas, so is the mexican coke, it really is better than american coke
I have to say that Houston is one of the top eating cities in the US.
