I used to work in Tempe and we'd head to House of Tricks on a regular basis for lunch. Delish! And so nice when the weather is nice to sit outside. It's been a year, at least, since I visited Tricks.
Today was much too hot to sit outside!
We arrive about 1:15 and were immediately seated inside. We looked over the menu and my dining buddy, Michelle, ordered a Diet Coke. I couldn't decide between raspberry lemonade or raspberry iced tea, so the waitress suggested both. A raspberry Arnold Palmer! Perfect. They use fresh raspberries in the drinks and they turn is a lovely pink color! I love it!
We checked out the menu, Michelle chose the Angus French Dip and I selected the Roasted Veggie sandwich on foccacia with marinated tomatoes, basil pesto and olive cream cheese. Olive creme cheese doesn't do it for me, so I asked to sub the hummus. Can do!
Seth, you'll be happy to know that we NEVER saw the bottoms of our glasses. They were promptly refilled three times during lunch.
Lunches arrived in about 5-7 minutes. The French Dip looked good, melty with provolone and a side of very wet potato salad. I'm not a big potato salad fan, but Michelle enjoyed it.
My sandwich was ggrrrrreat!! Bread was toasty but a little chewy. Roasted yellow squash, zucchini, eggplant, fresh tomato and roasted red pepper. A generous slathering of pesto and hummus. The waitress even brought me a side of hummus and didn't charge me for it. All of the flavors were so good together. Nice and garlicky, but not too much.
My sandwich came with a side of fruit -- sliced cataloupe, 2 HUGE whole strawberries, fresh pineapple and grapes. The pineapple was super sweet!
Service was good too.
The bill was $22 before tip.
I did notice that Tricks will be closed the entire month of July for renovations. So go now, or wait until August.
