While I am quite the little chowhound, my boyfriend is more of a connoisseur, so for his birthday I wanted to find something unique and special. Man, did House in the Heights fit the bill to a T!
First of all it's BYOB, because the Heights is dry, so it's fun (and cheap) to be able to stop by Spec's and pick something up for the night. I was worried about pairing the wine without knowing what was for dinner, but then I just decided I would bring my own wine-arsenal. Heck, just cause I had it all doesn't mean I had to drink it all!
When we arrived the owner gave us the warmest greeting, went back to the kitchen to bake us some of the best bread I have ever had (and I go to France on a fairly regular basis)and then he explained all of the 9 million (okay, a tad exaggerated) herbs that went into the dipping oil...and of course he had personally grown all of the herbs.
The menu is prix-fix and includes your appetizer, salad and main course, I was under the impression that your dessert was included...but it wasn't. Oh well, the prices were still *amazingly* reasonable so who am I to complain?
I will spare you the rest of the details of our meal, since I would hope that my above description could be extrapolated to the rest of the courses.
It was a wonderfully romantic meal, and one that any Chowhound would certainly appreciate.
P.S. Don't let the website fool you...even though their online marketing might not be done to perfection, the food, decor, and service is bellissimo!
