Disclaimer: I'm not one to bash restaurants, but the experience I had last night needs to be shared.
My girlfriend, her sister, and I went out for Thai food, Jaiya Thai on Third Ave. We ordered the Chicken Mumsum Soup, Pad Thai, and Chicken Basil dishes to share. The waitress asked if we would like the food mild, medium, or spicy. We chose medium for all the dishes.
The first course was the soup, which was so hot (spicy) that I finished my water on the first sip! No one could even finish half of his or her cup. We indicated this to the waitress, to make the other dishes mild due to our medium flavor discovery. She agreed.
Two minutes later, the Pad Thai and Chicken Basil arrived. Once again, the Chicken Basil was so hot (spicy) that I needed another glass of water. We asked the waitress if this was mild and she indicated is was mild to medium. I asked if she could please make it less spicy and she indicated that they (Jaiya Thai) are not allowed to take food back. She said its the law of the restaurant!
I hate being that guy, but I asked to speak to management. He, Alhee Neevei, indicated they couldnt take back food once its been cooked. We tried to enjoy the one dish of Pad Thai between the three of us.
When the check came, no items were removed for our complaints. After 20 minutes of arguing about the removal of the medium items, I reached in my pocket and threw some cash on the table. I took it upon myself to re-cal the bill.
Ive never been to a restaurant that put up such a fight to dis-accommodate its customers!
