A hot, sexy, mingling scene is most important! With a smartish crowd of our age group.
Secondly, food should be well above average/ very tasty.
Any cuisine, any Manhattan location.
Regular spots and other places we have visited:
Balthazar -- fun, good seafood platter, signature salad, short ribs, much more; current fave place but always eager for new places
La Bottega -- bit touristy/ faux-hip scene; steak and apps were fine; great outdoor space
Pastis -- not enough mingling; too crowded and bright inside
Babbo -- great food; not enough singles for our group
Tao -- cheesy, food not great
Spice Market -- not much of a mingling scene
Vento -- fun; great outdoor patio; Level V downstairs can be touristy, faux-hip like much of the Meatpacking District, including Hotel Gansevoort
The Hudson -- so-so scene; food slightly above average
Irving Place -- several places were too young; Casa Mono/ Bar Jamon have great food, but so tiny and cramped with no mingling
Schiller's Liquor Bar -- fun, mingling, diverse crowd; good, basic menu, but so bright inside!
Ben Benson's -- good food, always busy, though most are on business dinners
W Lex and W Union Square -- prefer Union Square, as more business people in 30's; but do not care for the restaurant there!
Four Seasons Hotel -- bit too obvious of a pick-up scene! But good apps and always bustling
Four Seasons Restaurant -- good scene, great food
Soon to try Pravda, Public, Butter, Bar Americain, Geisha...... and SOHO House, Bungalow 8, and Frederick's on 58th (can we get into these? Hear they are members only.)
Any other suggestions?
