Went to Xi'an China last week and met with another culinary 'first' for me -- hot Coke with ginger. This was server out of a larger glass teapot/pitcher that was brought to our table. Very sweet with a definite ginger smell and taste. I wouldn't have guessed this beverage was made from Coca Cola had I not been told. I guess boiling the Coke takes the fizz out of it, and then the floating bits of ginger served to really throw me off the trail. It seemed even sweeter than usual Coke perhaps due to the absence of the carbonation.
Not bad on the whole, certainly drinkable. However I don't think I will ever develop a craving for this one.
Anyone else ever had this? Is it common in China?
