From time to time, I give my employees gift cards from Lettuce Entertain You Restaurants as kudos for a job well done or completeing a project that required extra effort. Yesterday was one of those days.
I stopped in the Shaws at the Villages of Woodfield and ordered a gift card which I paid for with my check card. This morning, I'm on line paying bills and notice that the charge has hit my account for 15% more than I signed the authorization. I checked my receipt. I left the "tip" line blank and totaled out my bill in the amount of the gift card that I bought. It appears to me that someone at the hostess stand added a 15% tip for himself.
Am I missing something here? I didn't eat at Shaws. I was only in the place for 5 minutes ordering and paying for a gift card. Honestly, it took me longer to walk across the parking lot than it did to take care of my business. It didn't require any real service effort on the part of the host. Just a swipe of my credit card and activation of the gift card.
I'm planning on going back and raising cain about it today. Not because the money is a big deal. But, because the principal of the thing is a big deal. In my opinion, someone stole from me.
What do you hounds think? Am I being unreasonable?
