Horrible dinner at Cafe Metropol

ES | Jan 29, 200610:27 AM

Last night I went with three friends to Cafe Metropol in the "artists district" in downtown. We weren't all that hungry to begin with, luckily. We had two salads. They were large and thoroughly drenched in a sweet, cloying dressing. They tasted as if they'd been floating in in a vat of the dressing for an hour or so before being served. We weren't given a choice as to type of dressing either. We had a Buffalo wings appetizer. The wings were charred and tasted very much as if they'd been cooked somewhere else much earlier in the day, brought to the restaurant in a plastic bag and heated to lukewarm in a microwave. Last but not least we had a pizza. We should have been forewarned when the waiter told us that they were all out of the 12" pizza. At best that means the crusts are premade. What we got was something that tasted worse, much worse, than any frozen pizza any of us had ever eaten; and the crust had that sort of soggy yet chewy texture that dough gets when it's microwaved. You can see the kitchen in the front room and when I looked I couldn't see any evidence of an oven on the premises. There were three microwaves though. I've read some okay comments about this place on this board. Must be some other place.
