Hope and Anchor Disaster

GB | Oct 30, 2005 03:35 PM

After roaming around the Red Hook ball fields this afternoon, my husband and I decided to go further into Red Hook and drop in at BWAC. Unfrotunately, they were taking down their most recent show. But it was sunny and warm and there were great people to talk with. Having heard about Hope and Anchor from so many hounds, I thought we should try it. Our maiden voyage so to speak. Well, it was a disaster. It took forever for someone to come and take our order. Finally a waitperson appeared, that was after I told someone that we were ready to order. Simple enough order... I had the country salad and my husband ordered the Salmon burger and a brooklyn weisser beer. The waitress seemed a bit stressed. Drinks arrive and my husband takes the beer and says, "This isn't the beer I ordered." OK, he drinks the beer and says nothing. Our entrees arrive and my Country salad consisted of a fried egg atop a piece of overcooked, petrified like, thin, thin slice of ham. To make matters worse the mushrooms were canned ugh, and the potatoes were obviously leftovers from dinner last night. They were starchy, mealy and tasteless. The salad had not been dressed and I asked for dressing which was really tasty. Obviously, this was not at all what I was expecting. My husband was presented with a piece of poached salmon on greens. Definitely not what he had ordered. "Oops," says the waitress, "I guess I made a mistake." That was 2 errors. She then tells us its been a long day. Sorry that is not my problem. Husband then orders a Red Hook Burger, which was suprisingly good. We then ask for the bill, it was not crowded.I might add, it took 2 attempts for them to finally bring it. I don't think we will be going back there. I had such high expectations. Oh well, sometimes it is hit or miss. This was a BIG miss.
