I really wanted to love this place. Mostly because of the lack of good cajun places in SF and because the recent NOLA disaster has made me senitmental for NOLA food memories. Plus, it seemed like a new business trying in earnest to make it in one of our most blighted looking hoods.
One look at the menu and I was in shock. Most dishes were in the $13-19 range. A po' boy was $7. My small gumbo was $13. Given this was 6th and Market, who was going to pay this kind of price. Nonetheless, I ordered the small gumbo with seafood. It came with a side of greens. The gumbo looked pale in color... not dark from a dark roux. There were a few pieces of chicken wings and drumsticks that looked cooked for hours and a few pieces of dungeness crab legs in it. And it tasted as it looks, bland. I didn't finish the crab parts and I am a bonafide crab LOVER.
Has anyone else tried this place? I'm hoping that even though it's name is gumbo shack that it's the worst dish on the menu.
