Hon's Wun Tun

Jason Leung | Oct 19, 2003 11:31 AM

Based on some postive responses for Hon's Wun Tun on Kearney I got from an initial posting I made in early Septemeber asking for good Wonton-Noodle places, I walked the 1.5 miles to HWT from my home (up Nob hill .... and back down Nob hill .... :-) )

My opinion?

I will avoid this place from here on out. There's better Wonton Noodle in Ohio, of all places.

I ordered Char Siu Wonton Mein (BBW pork). For my money I got some noodles that were approximately the right elasticity, with ok soup, about 5 wafer thin bits of pork (bits...not slices....bits) and 5 ludicrously small wonton with meagre shrimp.

The wonton were terrible. the size was ridiculous. Terrible, Terrible. This was not BBQ pork wonton mein. This was wonton Mein with BBQ pork flavor and some things that resembled dumping-wontons but were terrible.

Think frozen Doll-brand har-gow dim sum compared to the real stuff and that's what these wonton were like compared to real all-shrimp HK style wonton.

What a waste of a meal. I was sorely disappointed that I walked 3 miles roundtrip for this.

I did, however, assuage my angst by picking up a small personal-size Key Lime pie on the way back home from Whole Foods on California & Franklin.

:-)
