Honest Chops - East Village Butcher

tazerowe | Apr 14, 2014 04:51 AM

Given the great weather, I was looking for a steak yesterday. I recalled reading about Honest Chops, a new halal butcher on 9th Street between 2nd and 3rd, so I figured I would stop by. Seems like a nice addition to the neighborhood. I wasn't sure what to expect given the halal moniker, but it is really just a small butcher shop focused on grass-fed beef and chicken. They said they butcher the whole animal themselves, and they had specific cuts plus sausages and ground beef. I got a skirt steak and thought it was very nice. Prices are not cheap, but in the ballpark for quality meat. Probably a couple of dollars a pound less than the Greenmarket. The place reminded me a bit of Dickson's, but without the charcuterie and a smaller selection. I'll be back.
