Home Slice Pizza - Austin - Finally!!!

Want to put in a good word for Home Slice Pizza which just opened a couple of weeks ago on S. Congress.

I'm an ex-NYer and although there's lots to love about TX food, I have become used to the inevitable disappointment with NY-style offerings, so my expectations were pretty low. This pizza almost brought tears to my eyes. It has a good thin crust that's thicker around the edges with those sublime cheese covered yeast bubbles towards the wide end of the slice. The cheese was good, if slightly heavy handed, and there was a good amount (meaning not too much) of a mild sauce. NY pizza is pretty uncomplicated and I think most people try to overseason the sauce or go too fancy or too much on the crust or the cheese.

The place just opened so I should mention that the service is not really in sync yet - we called ahead for a pie to eat there, then when we got there ended up waiting about 10 minutes and were finally served our lukewarm pie that had been sitting in a box on top of the oven. Even so, we barreled through it pretty fast and ordered another one. They do sell slices from premade pies, and I tried the margherita which was very good. We also tried sausage and garlic (not overloaded with sausage, nor garlic) which was great. The sausage was very thinly sliced Italian sausage - not crumbled or pre-formed stuff.

I am so happy to have a place close by to satisfy my pizza jones!
