It’s once again time for another exciting round of DOTM nominations! What’s it like where you live? Is it blooming springtime yet? Is there more produce coming in? What dish tickles your fancy for preparing in May?
There are some wonderful no-knead breads baking over on the DOTM thread for April. If you’re new to DOTM, or if you haven’t visited this month’s dish yet, take a look here:
To nominate a dish for May, type it in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS. You may nominate as many dishes as you like. As usual, I urge you to push your own envelope, think of something you’ve always wanted to learn how to cook, something that will help you master a new technique, get acquainted with a new ingredient, or learn about a new cuisine. **Please read the starred guidelines below about what makes a dish, and what dishes we’ve already done.**
Nominations will be open until April 25th at 6pm Pacific time (9pm Eastern time, and 1am April 26th GMT). After nominations close we'll move on to voting. In the voting round, everyone gets only one vote.
If you have yet to participate in the Dish of the Month, or if you've been reading the threads and never posted on Chowhound, now is the time to join in! It's a lot of fun, and everyone has something interesting to share.
**What Makes a Dish**
A dish is loosely defined as an ingredient and a method of preparation. So while chocolate is not a dish, chocolate mousse is a dish. It doesn’t have to be terribly specific, you don’t have to say “tomatoes chopped and simmered over low heat then puréed and poured into a bowl,” you can just nominate “tomato soup.” For some dishes, both the ingredients and the technique are implied, such as cassoulet or jambalaya.
