Welcome to DOTM reporting thread for July 2021 and Happy Canada Day to our Canadian friends! Our dish this month is Croque Monsieur and Croque Madame. It has been nominated many times but without ultimate success. Hope this makes many people happy!
A croque monsieur, literally meaning "mister crunch", is a hot sandwich made with ham and cheese. The dish originated in French cafés and bars as a quick snack. The first time this sandwich is known to have appeared on a Paris café menu was in 1910. A croque madame is a variation of croque monsieur sandwich that includes a fried egg (reportedly named such because the egg resembles a lady's wide-brimmed hat).
Please use this thread to report on Croque that you make this month and in many months to follow. In your reports, do share ingredients, methods, sources, inspirations, successes and failures, photos, and links to online recipes. Per Chowhound rules, please do not post another author's recipe verbatim. You may, however, list ingredients and summarize technique in your own words.
