A few lenten seasons ago, someone made a post about lenten fish frys. Specifically midwest style. Well there wasn't many replies about them specifically because if you've been to a Catholic Church lately... it's not Wisconsinites sitting in those pews... In my church in Mid City for example, we have a very diverse group of Mexicans, Salvadorans, Filipinos and Old Louisianas. It makes for super fun times durring church festivals (who knew Hot Links went to so well with Lumpia!) and Fish Fry season...
For the first few weeks they are doing Cajun style fish frys. Which means snapper and catfish in a corn meal batter with LOTS of Lousinana Hot Sauce! For $7.00 you can get a plate of Snapper
The sides as you can see are rather industrial (Actually the potato salad with a little peper and hot sauce is pretty good!). But the star here is the fish! Great crispy batter and as usual those church ladies get it right on! The fish is wonerfully moist and fresh. The only thing is, it's done in batches, I showed up at around 6:30 and the fish was a bit cold, but it re-heats really easy.
Also, for a few bucks extra you can get dessert! Like Banana Pudding...
Very sweet and rather fluffy! Total Homemade!!
So if you are looking for a cheap good lenten eats, this might be a good spot. Run from 4p-7p all friday through lent with good friday featuring the Mexican ladies with their homemade Ceviche... :D
