Working out in Western Mass this week and stopped by the "Holy Smokes" BBQ in Hatfield for a little takeout. The restaurant is in an old converted Lutheran church. Hatfield is located about 20 miles north of Springfield, just off I-91. There are directions at the web site (link below).
My rating - Very good! Had the "TNT" combo - Pork Ribs & Pulled Pork (had to ask for pulled pork - this combo is generally served w/ pulled beef). Also comes w/ two sides, which were cole slaw and "Spicy Mac" - a kicked-up version of Mac & Cheese.
Ribs were outstanding. They were St. Louis ribs (my favorite) that were very meaty and very well smoked, finished w/ their house sauce on the grill. The pulled pork was good, not the best I've had, but good nonetheless. The sides were excellent. The Spicy Mac & Cheese (they also have regular, non-spicy Mac & Cheese) was very good - cheesy & tangy. The cole slaw was freshly made, not pre-packaged sweet glop, but nice & tart and not too creamy.
They've got 4 sauce choices, including the house sauce (sweet & tangy), a chipotle sauce w/ a little kick, a honey-bourbon and a very spicy sauce (the "666"). I tried the house and the chipotle sauces and enjoyed them both.
I highly recommend this place if you're in the area.
