hollywood / los feliz: off-hour burrito quest

blima | Sep 25, 2002 08:55 PM

Bearing in mind the posted warnings about burritos made during the off-hours, I've been trying to find the best local (Hollywood/Los Feliz) burrito place that can accommodate my odd hours. I know the rush hours are supposed to be better, but I can't always make it then.

Call me crazy but I haven't found anything top-notch, or maybe I'm just too accustomed to my favorites in other locations: Long Beach (La Cabanita, Tito's Bakery, Taqueria #2), Mountain View (Taqueria La Bamba, La Costen~a), and even certain Orange County chains (Baja Fresh, Alegria).

Well, here are my reports so far. By and large, they're all bland. (how do you say "very spicy" in Spanish...). Any comments/criticisms?

BURRITO REPORTS

Yuca's (Hillhurst)
cochinitas pitil -- novel spices, but bland

Alegria (Sunset)
carne asada -- pleasant mix, not too vivid

El Gran Burrito (Santa Monica at Vermont)
carne asada -- unremarkable

Pollo Dorado (Hollywood Blvd.)
chicken -- stale, bland, barely edible

Antojitos Denise's (Hollywood Blvd.)
chicharrones -- too rich for my taste
chicken -- unexceptionable but unexceptional

YET TO TRY:
Tacos Delta (Sunset)
Que Rico (Vermont)
Burrito King (Hyperion)
