Holiday season shipments - worse than usual?

Hi, all. Chowhound poster Robenco15 had a recent thread about mis-shipped products (happily corrected or at least in-progress) and that story, along with my own experiences this year, prompts me to ask:

How was shipping and receiving this year for those of you who bought holiday gifts online?

For us, it was by far the worst on record, with 6 failed or really delayed deliveries, out of about 18 total. Things like, the tracking says it was delivered to our home and we contact the shipper who says "wait 3 days before you can fill out an inquiry". Really? On something that was "Next-Day" shipping, which according to tracking took 3 days to be "delivered", I have to wait 3 more days to formally complain? Turns out the excuse here was that it counts as "delivered" once tossed into some kind of temporary storage pod, and they rely on local temps to make the final (actual) deliveries. But there's no way to determine exactly where it is once it's "delivered" to one of these pods as the tracking insists it's actually delivered to your house.

The best (worst) experience of packages we actually received was the two iPads my wife bought for our in-laws. The shipper basically insinuated we were lying, and forwarded a photo of the package delivered to our house. "That is NOT my house". "Sure it is".

WTF? I know what my house looks like - and that ain't it by 10 miles. There is no house in this entire neighborhood (large-ish S/D with 350 houses) that has cedar shake siding. All are brick or stacked stone.

While we were waiting on them to investigate, Sunday afternoon the package appeared on our porch, opened. But all contents intact. Apparently whoever it was delivered to started to open then realized it wasn't theirs, and took the time themselves to drive it over to our house and drop it off. Too bad they didn't leave a note, I'd have loved to buy them lunch or something as a "thank-you". If it hadn't been for them we'd still be trying to prove we never received the delivery.

There were also several for which we never got the package, and for which my wife eventually got a refund and found the thing at a brick/mortar in time for gifting. By the way, for the most part "we" and "our" here is my wife - she does 99% of the shopping for us, including finding gifts for my family members, bless her heart.

Anyway, how was it for you? Same as usual? Better? Worse?
