Hoa Viet on Broadway and 19th has reopened. It was closed last fall after an alley fire caused extensive smoke damage to the restaurant. I had dinner there tonight and talked with the Manager. She said that it took so long to open due to negotiations between their insurance company and the property owner's insurance company as to who paid for what. Once those were concluded, our booming economy made it difficult for them to get construction people.
The restaurant has been redesigned. Gone are the red vinyl booths. They've been replaced by new tables. The reception desk has been moved and the drink prep area has been turned into a stage for weddings and special gatherings.
The menu, newly reprinted, is the same as always. It's hard for a party of one to evaluate the food, but what I had was just as good as always. The Manager said that most of the old employees have returned.
As part of the whole project, they were finally able to finish redoing the old bar area. Now food can be served in both sides of the restaurant. If there's a special party, regular patrons can still dine in the new area. Alas, the small restrooms remain unchanged.
Welcome back, Hoa Viet. I have missed your excellent food and friendly service.
