Last night I took a wander around the neighborhood and picked up some take out from a few spots.
First stop: Meytex Lounge. Ghanaian place on Flatbush just south of Lincoln Road. This was my first experience eating Ghanain food. We picked up two stews/soups - one okra-based with crab, goat, and a big piece of fried fish which she put in at the last minute; the other peanut with goat as well. This was $10 and came with a big bag of fufu. The stews were both tasty but none of us were big fans of the fufu. It wasn't bad but more of a texture issue - a little doughy. I liked the flavors of the stews/soups a lot but felt like I would have preffered them over rice or just on their own. Maybe I need to develop a taste for the fufu. I had heard Ghanaian food was spicy but this stuff wasn't. Good though, and nice people - looked like a decent place to eat in as well.
Second stop: Danny's Express. Jerk chicken place on Flatbush, a few blocks south of Parkside. I had picked up jerk chicken from here when it was Danny and Pepper's. It was a lot better on that ocasion. This was okay but very un-spicy. I like a little more heat with jerk chicken.
Third stop: De Bamboo Express. Trini-Chinese place across from Danny's. Someone recommended the jerk lamb lo mein to me ages ago and I am once again kicking myself for taking so long to try something. Especially down the street from me! Especially when I have done nothing but crab about bad Chinese food in my neighborhood for 5 years!! IDIOT! It was $10.95 and big enough to feed an army and AMAZING.
Many other things there looked good as well. Extensive Chinese menu, extensive Trini menu, lots of extras and specials and baked goods too. Really friendly service.
