Last week I pulled up to black-owned cafe and music venue, Hip Hop Juice Box, in Emeryville for some refreshment and to break up my drive. My first time here.
Outside, tables and chairs are set up on the quiet side street for customers to hang out and use the wifi. Inside, the two helpful, masked staffers behind the counter guided me, pointing to the plastic laminated menus (smoothies, sandwiches, açai, beer/wine, coffee) arrayed by the window for easy touchless viewing, some vegan donuts, and the table of packaged snacks ready for grab and go.
On this warm afternoon I needed a cold drink. Admiring the La Marzocco machine, I ordered a Mint Shakerato. Though I missed hearing the sound effects of ice cubes in a steel cocktail shaker, this iced espresso with milk and fresh mint leaves was mighty refreshing and tasty.
Hip Hop Juice Bar was just what I needed. Check it out.
