Himalayan Kitchen in Big Bear

I was in Big Bear with a party of three omnivores and one vegetarian and stopped in at Himalayan Kitchen. (We had wanted to visit Ooh La La, the stylish new French place, they had no vegetarian options on the menu and though they said something could be arranged, they were vague about what.) My wife and I had tried Nepalese and Tibetan food, but our companions hadn't, and this offered an option that would please everybody.

What we had:

Vegetarian momos - the steamed tibetan dumplings arrived hot and were tasty, though a bit on the mild side - I might have liked a bit more ginger. Still, quite good, with a dough wrapper that was perfectly done.

Vegetarian somosas - Above average - bean flour shell was fried crisp, potato, pea, and spice mix was fine.

"Tibetan Bread" - really a puri, which is eaten all over South Asia. Bread was tasty and nicely puffed, obviously fresh from the fryer.

Baigan Alloo - very good eggplant and potato curry - ordered medium and arrived mild, but by now we had figured that their default is a somewhat gringo version. There was enough cumulative heat to make this dish interesting and multidimensional.

Lamb Sekuwa - good tandoori lamb with a nice smoky flavor and dense texture.

Mushroom Mattar - decent mushroom and green pea curry - ordered medium, seemed a bit less spicy than the Baigan Alloo. Not bad, not exceptional.

Garlic naan - just good crisp garlic naan, obviously freshly made.

Overal it was a surprisingly good meal for Big Bear, and I'd go back.

Any other Big Bear recs?
