Just a post to say that my dinner last weekend at Jack's Luxury etc. was very nice. As a matter of fact, it was the best "fancy" meal I have had in Manhattan in quite a while. The French waiter there who took care of us came off as snooty, but the food itself was wonderful.
I had the oysters 6 ways, others had the deconstructed oysters and someone had a vegetarian version of the soup...it was all mostly top notch. Some of my oysters tasted so fresh it was like the ocean itself and the hidden bursts of lemon or tabasco spice was a real treat.
The lobster as a main course was unreal- soft and perfectly cooked, not too large a portion, and came with a cajuny cream sauce that was just right and surprisingly light.
But maybe the highlight was the Banana Foster desert- bananas-- almost too subtle to taste--with a fluffy cake and rum poured on top and a dollop of cream- not too heavy, not too light, not too sweet, the alcohol worked perfectly to cut the sugar and was well absorbed into the cake...it was a wonderful way to end a good meal...
By the way, despite his snootyness, the waiter did recommend a very nice white wine that did not call attention to itself but matched the food perfectly.
