Panaderia Guadalajara looks pretty impressive - this is the Bakery that piques my interest the most.
They have special traditional Curesma (Lent) offerings such as;
- Empanadas de Tuna (prickly pear)
- Empanadas de Queso y Rajas
- Tamales de Q/R
- Boillios de Q/R
in additon to meat empanadas, tamales and Pan Dulce.
Panaderia Denis is on a side street right off Highland - need to go inside
Espiga de Oro - Supplies a lot of Tienditas in the North County and has some interesting Empanadas and Tortas available
Foodland is a cool Supermercado that has this retro art-deco exterior which I like. Its not as big as Northgate but I was impressed by the Panaderia, Taqueria, and the Cactus woman who had a stand just to take care of the spikes on your Nopal leaves.
The Taqueria has Tacos de Canasta - which I will be back to try. They are the steamed tacos that are packed in Baskets with towels to stay warm for the Miners and DF city workers lunches.
The Bakery had some unique Pan Dulce:
- Empanadas De La Paz ("Peace turnovers" Pilloncillo and cheese)
- Cuerdnos con Cajeta ( Wreath filled with goat caramel)
- A fig bread
