Have you noticed the prices of seafood recently? Admittedly, this time of year there is plenty of demand for less supply but this year it’s crazy. Even the usually reasonable fresh cod & flounder prices are sky high, I heard from a fish monger friend in NJ that he paid $16.00 wholesale for fluke (summer flounder) this week. The larger sizes of red king crab legs are north of $25.00 per pound. Dry sea scallops are off the charts too. Even shrimp, which have been an excellent value, have doubled in price due to diseases in the ponds. Supermarket fish around here (suburban NYC) is a disaster. I walk by the fish counter and see all the drab, gray, sad looking “previously frozen” defrosted seafood. It’s depressing. Are you paying the high prices or avoiding seafood altogether?
