I was reading a thread on a bbq forum and they were discussing a bbq joint in Dallas that existed in 1891. Others chimed in saying that this date pre-dates the earliest q joint in Kansas City by 16 years, meaning that the Dallas joint, according to them, may be the first US q joint that existed.
So, I was thinking about how bbq originated from Carribean/French influence and wondered if The French Market could beat that date for bbq, or greater New Orleans. I know NOLA isn't known for it's bbq, but it is known for both Chow and it's deep history. Any thoughts? (Hope this doesn't get canned. It's about chow and NO, but who knows.)
