Slow Food is sponsoring a festival of apples and North Carolina heritage pork today from 1-7 PM at Il Buco (47 Bond Street). Tastings are $7 each, and the offerings are: whole roasted pig with applesauce; pork sandwich, pork, apple, and mustard sausage with Savoy cabbage, pasta with guanciale, and apple fritters with sheep's milk ricotta. Wine is $7 and water or iced tea are $2.50. Portions are kind of small, but it's for a good cause. The sausage and the cabbage were good, even if I had to swipe a ciabatta roll to make them into a sandwich (it doesn't come with bread), but I would have liked a nice tangy mustard to put on it--you can't taste the mustard in the sausage itself. Also, the meat is ground kind of coarsely, which made for an interesting texture.
