Herbsaint or Lillette and others for NYC hounds

zEli173 | Feb 26, 200507:23 AM

Coming into town for the first time tonight. We have to choose between Herbsaint or Lillette (or we could try another place if someone has a better suggestions). Being from NYC we are spoiled by perhaps the best restaurant culture in the world. So will either of these places be worth our while? We are especially tuned into restaurants that focus on seasonal, local, and artinisinal purveyors. We are not particuarly intersted in the real old school joints except for maybe a jazz brunch.

Some of the comments I've read on the board have indicated that Herbsaint is very popular amongst locals but doesn't do much for chowhounds from other prime culinary locales. Any thoughts on this? Could the same be said of Lillette? I have seen mostly unanimous support for Lillette on this board but have read some mixed reviews elsewhere. Comments?

Monday night we are going to Gautreau's and at some point we will surely hit Uggies. Sunday we are scheduled to have brunch at Arnaud's.

Thoughts on any of our plans are appreciated.
