Henry's Hunan

Food Dog Man | Dec 2, 2003 05:09 PM

I'm such a devoted brown-bagger that I almost never go out for lunch, but today two kindly fellow employees wanted to treat me. I picked this old favorite (Natoma St. branch) to check it for signs of slippage, and found none.

We started with the onion cake. You know, I wouldn't mind a little peanut sauce with the onion cake, but there's something to be said about it plain as well, and that something is not soggy.

The Veggie ordered some kind of Veggie thing, and we split Henry's Special, which I'd never had before, a fantastic explosion of flavor.

The food was on the table about two seconds after we ordered it, along with the tea, the water, and the Coke. (Henry's various Hunans are the only restaurants in which I order a Coke. Ya gotta have something to cut the hot.)

It was about $23 for the three of us. I was not allowed to look at the tab. I made the ceremonial and entirely phony co-pay offer, which was appreciated and refused. It was a great lunch, and all three of us enjoyed it thoroughly.
