Hennagin's Hotdogs

Melanie Wong | Apr 26, 200411:55 PM

In recent months a hot dog stand has appeared at the wide spot in the road at the intersection of Devlin and Airport Road in Napa along the access road to the airport. A selection of dogs by the venerable Schwarz Sausage are offered, including the old fashioned with a snappy casing, for $3.50, including cheese and chili if you want it. Feeling traditional, I went with the old fashioned. These are steamed dogs, served in a fresh but mushy bun. The "cheese" is more like cheez whiz and the chili similarly nondescript. You can select from an array on condiments on a side table, including saurkraut, two kinds of relish, roasted garlic, pickled jalapenos, and a mild blend of red and white chopped onion, as well as ketchup, mayo, and mustard. Nothing to travel out of your way for, but it's there if you get stuck in traffic on Hwy 29 and need a bite.
