Ok people so here's the deal:
I just moved to Las Vegas/Henderson this week from the Bay Area....I live on South Eastern Avenue and there's a PLETHORA of places near by! I'm a single guy and I don't plan on cooking myself for the first couple months here so I need suggestions! I'm not afraid of grease and I value honest opinions...So far I've tried Chicago Tasty Dog and Roberto's Taco Shop. What are some places near by you would recommend? No places over say, $15 please
Thanks!
Mark
I regularly stay at Fiesta-Henderson so I am familiar with some of the dining options in Henderson. Probably the best Mexican restaurant in the area is Viva Michoacan on Sunset. Metro Pizza on Tropicana is the closest outlet for excellent NY style pizza. Try Ventano Italian Corner & Oyster Bar, Arroyo Grande Blvd., for excellent southern italian. The best casino buffet in the area may be found at the Green Valley Rancho (GVR) casino. Their Sunday brunch, only slightly over your $15 criteria, is excellent, but be aware lines can be long. For value it is hard to beat the coffee shops in the nearby casinos including the recently opened Grand Cafe at the GVR as well as the Baja Cafe @ Fiesta-Henderson. The latter serves Feel Good Soup which is a meal in itself. I also like China Spice in the GVR. As a local you will soon be inundated with dining offers from the casinos.
On Eastern there is an excellent Japanese restaurant, Koto, that does sushi as well as cooked dishes. They do a bento box that is in that price range and is an excellent and filling meal. There is also a new Cuban restaurant in the Colonnade that should be good (i have been to their downtown branch which was good but haven't yet been to this one). China Spice, as mentioned, is good, and unlike the nearby PF Changs, there is generally no wait. In addition to Vivo Michocan, there is El Jefe on Stephanie, near Sunset Station, that is a nicer Mexican restaurant, and they are shortly opening another restaurant on Eastern. For good bar food at very reasonable prices, Roadrunner near the Colonnade is very solid, but they do not have satellite TV, so only one football game seems to show at a time.
If you want a great grinder(hoagie), try Capriotti's on Eastern just past Horizon Ridge.
The specialty sandwiches are really good(especially the Bobbie)
There's a Fatburger(get the burger "on the char") in Sunset Station casino, and an In & Out burger near Sunset Station. Think there's another Fatburger out that way somewhere. Also, I think there's a Memphis Championship Barbecue out that way somewhere, but I don't know how good MCB is.
Thanks to ALL of u for the suggestions! I forgot to mention that I had tried Capriotti's and LOVED it. I'm also gonna check out that Cuban spot (if I can find it without getting lost lol)
Please keep em comin!
I tried Kathy's Southern Kitchen on my most recent visit there, at the corner of Mountain Vista and Sunset Rd. Excellent fried chicken.
Hard to find, though, as I drove by it 3 times and almost gave up before I spotted it on the OUTSIDE of the strip mall, with the entrance facing the street instead of the parking lot inside.
Couple of places that I haven't been to yet, but are on my list to try next, are Memphis Championship BBQ, Todd's Unique Cuisine, and Hawaiian Plantation House.
Todd's is very good and really a find.
Hawaiian Plantation has closed. I concur with the recommendations of Todd's Uniquie, Ventano's and China Spice - all are excellent. Ambiance Bakery & Bistro on Sunset offers very good French food at affordable prices. We were very disappointed with the food at Fukuda on a recent visit.
Hey dont miss Faustos on Horizon ridge and Eastern. Killer Tauqeria.
2nd that emotion for Viva Michoacan. The menu's huge, so I'm betting you'll return often.
The Omelet House on Boulder Hwy is a great spot for breakfast. Yummy homemade potato chips and some intriguing omelet combos. Don't know about their lunch offerings, but I'm sure they're good.
If you like good sushi - SushiWa (All You Can Eat) = quality & quantity.
Roberto's sucks btw! Trash!!!
