Took my brother over to Tarpon Springs for some fabulous squid casserole at Bill's Lighthouse, only to find that Bill's had been turned into a mini-mall full of shops flogging gimcracks and what-have-yous of the cheapest sort. Wandered dejectedly down the sidewalk to Helos, one of the gaudiest and largest establishments on that stretch. We feasted on fried squid, a large plate of various lightly-marinaded sea creatures (octopus, squid, conch and shrimps), a broiled fresh red snapper that must have gone at least three pounds and several excellent Greek beers. Afterwards, we bought a couple of fine Cuban cigars on the street (which, surprisingly, turned out to be genuine) and some plastic cups of brandy and strutted about like kings. A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.
