last night i had some good pulpo. not the best i've ever had, because nothing can top greek octopus, but pretty great. it was at a tiny bar/ tapas place called sevilla (i think), on 9th ave and 40th street, which has the feeling of a real iberian ex-pat hangout. the octopus was served in a clay pot, and it had stewed for a while in a buttery, tomato-y, oniony sauce. there was probably some sherry and saffron in there too. it came with a basket of garlic bread, which we used to soak up every last drop of the sauce. good stuff.
for some reason i'm really into that area of 9th avenue right now, and want to try all the restaurants there. has anyone been to tangine, which is right next door to sevilla?
