Does anyone know if the kind you buy at the supermarket are sustainably harvested? I read that "pupunha palms" aren't killed when the stems are cut, but that other kinds are. And I don't see anything on the cans indicating what kind of tree they come from? I have to suspect the worst, and have stopped buying them, but I love them. If anyone has any leads, please post. Especially if you know of a place in uptown Manhattan where I can get fresh rather than canned.
